Dr. Jörg Knäblein,
PhD, is currently responsible for the Analytical Development of biological pharmaceuticals
and CMC management at Schering AG in Berlin, Germany. Before he was working in
the Department of Drug Delivery Systems/Biologics, where he developed target-specific
diagnostics and therapeutics. He is involved in market analysis, search of new
technologies, establishment of drug development programs with pharmaceutical companies
as well as preparation of management decisions on the acquisition of biotech companies.
His responsibilities also include the development of expression systems and technologies
for formulation and target specific delivery of drugs.
Before joining Schering AG in 2000, he was working as consultant in a HighTech-Consultancy
with focus on Biotechnology. Here he helped major pharmaceutical companies to
reduce cycle-times and TTM by implementing project management, re-engineering
development processes and working with cross-functional project teams.
During his PhD with the Nobelprize laureate Professor Huber at the Max-Planck-Institute
for Biochemistry, in Munich, they won the McKinsey business plan contest and founded
a Biotech-startup to solve and sell X-ray structures to pharmaceutical companies
for rational drug design. Before accepting the position as consultant, he helped
establishing the biggest eucalyptus oil plantation in Australia, `Banalaster Eucalyptusoil
Plantation' at Armidale, NSW, where he was working as public relation manager
as well as developing systems for ecological parasite eradication.
Dr. Knäblein holds a Masters degree in Biotechnology from the "Society
for Biotechnological Research" (GBF), Braunschweig, Germany as well as a
Masters degree in Biochemistry from the Free University in Berlin, Germany. He
has published many papers in peer-reviewed journals, a book on genetic engineering,
holds some patents and received a number of scholarships and awards. He is member
of different Academic/ Industrial associations (e.g. Society of Neuroscience)
and also served on different Advisory Boards (e.g. Drug Delivery Partnership).
Dr. Knäblein has previously also worked with companies like Hoechst (UK and
Somerville, NJ), and Behring-Werke, Marburg, Germany.
